The first core of the monastery dates from the middle of the 13th century, while the church dates from the end of that century. The large cloister was extended in the 14th century with the portico of the Magdalena, and in the 16th century with another cloister, known as the Monastery of Fra' Paolino. The latter are the Crucifixion (1533), the Adoration of the Magi (1528-1532) and the Mystical Marriage of St. Catherine (1534-1536).
Other important works are the Funerary Monument of Filippo Lazzari (1462) by Bernardo and Antonio Rossellino, St. Carlo Borromeo with the Rospigliosi family (1613) by Jacopo da Empoli, the Madonna of the Rosary (1610) by Cristofano Allori, and St. Sebastian which is cared for by pious women (1642) by Giacinto Gimignani. In the Great Cloister, Stories of St. Dominic by Sebastiano Vini.
