Description

The Spedale del Ceppo museum is located in the historic-monument part of the former hospital complex. According to tradition, it was founded in 1277 and fulfilled health functions for more than seven centuries, until the completion of the new hospital of San Jacopo, south of the city, in 2013.
Entering the old hospital, the historical, architectural and artistic history of the hospital is visualized, with a special section devoted to Robbia's frieze in polychrome glazed terracotta, which runs above the outside loggia, a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture and a of Pistoia's best known and most emblematic works.
