This column is located on Via Roma in Siena. On top is a perfect copy of the fifteenth-century she-wolf, the original of which is in the Contrada Museum.
The column of the Ponte di Romana has a special history. One document tells us it was used to affix a flag with a picture of a horse announcing the horse fair in the area.
Everywhere in Siena you will find the lactating she-wolf. The story goes that Siena was founded by the sons of Remus. We all know Remus from the story of the founding of Rome. He is said to have been raised by a she-wolf along with his brother Romulus.
