It is first mentioned in 987.
The current building, dating from the 13th century, has a gabled facade, covered in the lower part by a series of arches with two-tone marble bands, supported by ornate capitals; in the center is a deeply carved portal with leafy capitals and human figures. The same design is present in the upper register.
The interior underwent major renovations between 1826 and 1827, changing the original appearance and creating a hall in neoclassical style.
In the presbytery is a Madonna and Child by Andrea della Robbia in glazed terracotta (15th century), encased in a marble tabernacle sculpted by the Balsimelli di Settignano; also noteworthy are a Holy Family by Carlo Maratta (17th century), and the Madonna of the Redemption, a fresco attributed to Cenni di Francesco di ser Cenni (15th century).
