The monument to the fallen of San Gimignano consists of a travertine obelisk with continuous bronze high relief along the four sides of the base and marble tombstones with memories. On the front is a genuine Cannoncino of Austrian submarine wrapped in a bronze crown.
The high reliefs at the front represent "The Battle" or a soldier holding a bomb and holding a dying comrade; on the back "The work of the fields" or the widow, the orphan, the man with the plow and the fatherland; on the sides cherubs with festoons of laurel and oak leaves and acorns with war-heraldic symbols in the middle (a sword stuck in a kind of shield carved in bas-relief with an eagle on the right and a lily on the left). The monument is located in the center of the ancient Parco della Rimembranza, today Piazzale Martiri di Montemaggio.
