Villa Celsa

Initially created as a castle, a defensive stronghold of the Republic of Siena on the Montagnola Senese, it was transformed in the sixteenth century into a residence at the initiative of the owner Mino Celsi. It is likely that its name derives from this Sienese family, which became extinct early. The sixteenth-century restoration is certainly attributable to the architect Baldassarre Peruzzi, due to the existence of a drawing that describes the circular chapel and the arrangement of the retaining walls. The architecture of the courtyard also has the characteristics typical of Peruzzian works.
