The church was built in 1833 on the site of an existing church belonging to the Monastery of San Gaetano , founded in 1708.
The church has a rectangular plan with a single hall and an apse, roofed by a barrel vault with six square windows . The main entrance has a double wooden door. In the side walls are six shallow recessed chapels with altars. The facade is of unplastered stone.
The interior of the church is austere . The main altar is made of polychrome marble. It is mounted on a marble staircase with 5 steps. In the 1970s a fixed marble column altar 'coram populo' was added. For this intervention, the altar was placed in the priest's choir near the monumental 'coram Dei' altar, which had remained in its original place.
