This monument is located in the Piazza dei Caduti in Caccamo.
It honors the victims of the First World War.
Unique to the military equipment was the "Farina cuirass and helmet". The Farina armor was a type of personal protection used by the Royal Netherlands Army during the First World War. It owes its name to its creator, the Milanese engineer Ferruccio Farina. The Farina armor was a characteristic element of the so-called "companies of death" , i.e. groups of soldiers charged with performing extremely dangerous and almost always deadly actions , such as, for example, coming out of the trench to cut the barbed wire placed by the enemy.
They weighed over nine kilograms and were constructed of two trapezoidal plates , a front and a back, each constructed of five layers of sheet metal, curved slightly to the sides, and two movable shoulder pads. The cuirass was held in place by two braces, which the soldier crossed behind his back and tied at the front.
