Chiesa Santa Maria degli Angeli - Caccamo

An unsurpassed masterpiece of art is Antonello Gagini's Madonna and Child , certainly the most perfect work he executed in 1516.

The Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli contains the holy relics of Blessed Giovanni Liccio whose cult is great in Caccamo.

In the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, the stone portal of the central entrance is dominated by a niche where you can admire a 16th-century marble high relief depicting the Virgin and Child by an unknown artist.

Characteristic is the half-timbered roof of the nave , painted with polychrome decorations depicting episodes from the life of the Dominican saints. Due to lack of restoration, the decorations have unfortunately fallen into disrepair.

Also in the church are 14 octagonal canvases from the Via Crucis, seventeenth-century works of popular taste.

On the right side of the transept we see a work from the end of the 18th century, a canvas depicting Saints Peter and Paul showing one of the few views of the castle below with a mastra tower that no longer exists because it was destroyed after the earthquake of 1823.
