Former Jesuit College - Alcamo

Construction of the college began in 1652 after a donation from the Jesuit Vincenzo Abbati, with the aim of promoting the spread of the Christian faith. In fact, only two of the four planned wings were built. The building stood outside the city walls, in an area where there was already a lot of new construction and therefore a large number of potential students.

In the 18th century, the Jesuit college was enriched with a loggia: another building was planned for it, but that too was not built. The college's portico initially had four arches , but today three remain; the gate connecting it to the church of the Jesuit college has been destroyed.

Today it became the representative seat of the municipality of Alcamo, of the municipal library and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

In the oratory of the former Jesuit college there are some frescoes from the 18th century, painted by Domenico La Bruna, depicting the glory of the Immaculate Conception, Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, The Flagellation of Jesus and the Meeting with Veronica.
