Teatro cielo d'Alcamo

The first municipal theater "Ferrigno" was built in the mid-19th century. It was an important building from a cultural and artistic point of view; it featured paintings by the Palermo painter Salvatore Nasta and stucco work by Filippo Rimi from Alcamo.

This theater hosted very noble and renowned theater companies, so much so that it also became a cultural reference point for the neighboring municipalities.

In 1957, the municipal council, in consultation with the manager Girolamo Ferrigno, saw that the theater needed restoration and consolidation and decided to demolish it.

In 1961, the new one was inaugurated on the site of the old theater, dedicated to the mythological Eurowind, without the stuccowork that decorated the boxes and frescoes, but larger and able to compete with the theaters of the major centers, in terms of functionality and good taste. 314 wooden armchairs were placed in the gallery and 494 comfortable chairs were placed in the stalls.

Subsequently, in 2001, the theater was renovated and renamed "Teatro Cielo d'Alcamo", in honor of the great thirteenth century poet Cielo o Ciullo d'Alcamo, the original singer of the Italian language.
