The church was initially built next to the Mother Church in 1518. Since the rectors intended to improve it, they decided to build another one in Corso 6 Aprile right across the chiesa del Santo Angelo Custode.
The facade with a sober portal from 1608 is striking : the 4 pillars, which lean against the wall and rest on high pedestals, are worth mentioning.
Today the church has been closed for worship and deconsecrated for several decades .
The church was important as the Oratory of the Compagnia del Santo Monte di Pietà that helped poor people and assisted them in their needs and illnesses.
The Brotherhood of Saint Catherine already existed in 1430 and was located near the mother church. Its members were "gentlemen and civilized people" ; as a habit they wore "sacks , cloth cloaks and felt hats of a dark gray color, with the insignia of Christ in the tomb", then from 1635 white mourning robes and a visor, with the insignia of Our Lord of Piety on their shoulders.
