Only ruins remain of this Muslim mosque. It was built in the 12th century by the Muslim community based on the top of Mount Barbaro.
It was the first mosque to be identified with certainty thanks to archaeological excavations that identified the niche of the mihrab (an indisputable element of any mosque). This mosque measures 20 x 11 meters and was divided into two naves parallel to the qibla wall. This was oriented towards Mecca and indicated the direction of prayer. It was the "Friday Mosque" because every Friday all adult men gathered for a solemn prayer.
It was destroyed in the early 13th century after the Christian man who built the castle arrived.
