The Tower of King Federico is a lookout tower on the top of Mount Erice, about 800 meters above sea level.
The tower was built in the 13th century by order of Frederick II of Swabia , who used Erice as a strategic base to control western Sicily . The Royal Cathedral was built in the 14th century. This was located next to the watchtower which was transformed into a bell tower with stained glass windows at the end of the 14th century.
King Frederick's Tower offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding hills. Entry to the tower is free and you can climb to the top to enjoy the spectacular views.
