It already existed at the end of the 13th century and was rebuilt in the 16th century.
The large chapel was built in 1583. In 1728 the facade was rebuilt according to a design by Andrea Palma. The powerful facade, enclosed between the curtains of the street, is stretched between cornices and pilasters that leave little room for plasterwork; in the second order, a semicircular window frames several stucco statues, including that of the Immaculate Conception.
The plan is basilical, divided by colonnades and round arches, with a deep rectangular apse, added in 1583, which houses the choir and the main altar. Despite the classical layout, the hall is weighed down by the colorful interior cladding , built around 1844.
The church contains several paintings by Filippo Randazzo, such as the 'Sacrifice of Saint Hippolytus' on the main altar and the 'Madonna of the Rosary and Saints' in the first chapel on the left. On the left next to the presbytery is the large sacristy, with a frescoed pavilion ceiling , in which some old furniture has been preserved.
