Description

The church was completed in 1496 . The original building was built as a thank you to commemorate the terrible plague epidemic.

In 1482 the Brotherhood of San Sebastiano was founded. At the time , Saint Sebastian was considered the main protector invoked against the disease; the people called on him to put an end to the plague. Palermo has been freed from the epidemic thanks to the intercession of the saint and the prayers of the faithful.

In 1516, the old artifact was destroyed and rebuilt.

With the outbreak of the First World War , the temple was used as a grain store for the Red Cross.

In 1949 , after restoration work, the church is still used as a warehouse, deconsecrated and closed for worship. In In 2006, the interior was made accessible and included in the monumental heritage circuit accessible to the public. The final reopening will follow in 2008. The Virgin of the Poor prayer group has been present for several years in memory of the appearance of Mary to Mariette Beco.

Artistic events are allowed in the deconsecrated church.
