The church was built from 1682 to a design by Paolo Amato. It has an elliptical plan covered by a dome of considerable size .
The main facade has clear, strict lines; in the first order, windows and niches alternate, surrounded by intricate stone cornices; in the second order is an elegant loggia with three arches, closed by a monumental semicircular tympanum. In 1763, the majestic dome was covered on the outside with a loggia to protect the vault from rainwater infiltration.
The interior is accessed via a marble staircase with frescoes on the sides painted by Vito D'Anna around 1763: 'The Miracle of Saint Basil' and 'The Sermon of Saint Basil'. Two deep chapels and the rectangular chapel, diametrically opposite the entrance, open into the large space of the hall.
Of the opulent Baroque decoration, part of the stucco work of the pilasters, those around the altars and the four choirs and the beautiful frieze above the choir with a large angel in stucco have been preserved. On the right is a beautiful wooden crucifix , on a mixed marble curtain, with statues of Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Gaetano and Mary Magdalene.
The church is often used as an auditorium.
