Chiesa di S. Maria di Gesù, detta di "S.Maruzza" o dei Canceddi - Palermo

Church of S. Maria di Gesù is also known as "S. Maruzza" or dei Canceddi because it once belonged to a brotherhood of pack drivers who used large baskets called "canceddi" to load goods.

The church, built in the second half of the 15th century , was donated to the orphan college of S. Rocco (hence the name of the alley), the current building dates from 1660 with a single nave with a semi-circular apse, the facade dates from 1683, whose facade shows an elegant portal with turned columns above a large window, in a niche above the door stands the marble statue of the Blessed Virgin.

The painting Visitation of the Virgin to Saint Elizabeth is documented on the altar .

Behind the altar there is a "secret passage" that led directly to the Grotta dei Beati Paoli . An old Sirocco room was brought to light a few years ago during urban consolidation works; in the novel it was identified as the court of the cult of the same name. At the time of Natoli this cave must have been known and accessible.

Under the church the brothers built a crypt that could be used for their funerals.

Behind the apse there was originally a garden, where a tree grew that hid the entrance to the cave.
