Palazzo Artale-Tumminello - Palermo

Close to the cathedral, on the north side of Piazzetta Sett'angeli, next to the sixteenth-century church of the Badia Nuova , stands the Palazzo del Marquis Artale . It was built up to the first floor in the eighteenth century , while the second floor was built in the second half of the nineteenth century.

At the end of the 18th century, the property belonged to Giuseppe Artale Procobelli, Marquis of Collalto, who commissioned the paintings in some rooms, decorated by Giuseppe Renda and Francesco La Farina. The latter, a student of Velasco, from whom he learned neoclassical principles, put into practice his own stylistic and iconographic models in the execution of the work.

The illustrated episodes from Greek mythology highlight some of the most moving scenes from the Trojan War : from the wrath of Achilles to his victory over Hector, from Priam praying to Achilles for Hector's body, to the judgment of Paris, Love and Psyche, the Bacchanals.
The factories, much older than the nineteenth-century facade, extend over a long stretch of the Artale slope , where the palace still has an entrance with a large garden, a courtyard and the water tower.

Today the palace is known as Artale Tumminello. The fully restored main floor is open to the public again, an ideal place for organizing exclusive events: conferences, meetings, cultural debates and much more.
