The Parco d'Orleans is part of the villa of the same name, which houses the headquarters of the Presidency of the Sicily region . The park was created in the mid-nineteenth century and was long used as a place for agricultural experiments.
Today the park is approximately three and a half hectares in size. It has recently been transformed into an interesting ornithological park , populated by many species of birds, both exotic and from the Mediterranean. It is the only ornithological park in Italy and one of the few in Europe.
In addition to the numerous species of rare exotic parrots , such as macaws and parakeets, it is possible to observe storks, flamingos, pink pelicans and endemic birds now extinct in Sicily, such as the Egyptian Vulture, the Sultan's Chicken, the Francolin, the Owl and the Knight of 'Italy.
