Beautiful example of Liberty architecture . It was built by architect Ernesto Basile, who between 1899 and 1902 decided to dedicate its construction to his wife Ida, on behalf of the powerful Florio family.
It is one of the first architectural works in the Art Nouveau style in Italy and is considered one of the masterpieces of Art Nouveau at the European level. Considering Vincenzo Florio's cosmopolitan and great traveler attitude, Basile decided to recreate all the stages of the wealthy bourgeoisie through the different elements of the building: baroque surfaces, typical Nordic trusses, cylindrical turrets reminiscent of French castles , etc.
When the family's heyday was over, the villa fell into disuse until the 1962 fire damaged part of the interior. Finally, after a long period of restoration, the Villino Florio is open to visitors.
