The Francesco Scaglione Museum is a testimony of a 19th century house .
Cavaliere Francesco Scaglione was a man of great culture and immense curiosity who loved to collect and surround himself with works of art and objects of considerable value . In the 18th and 19th centuries, it was common throughout Europe for wealthy people to amass private collections of considerable value.
The museum is housed in the house of the Scaglione family, which the daughters of Cavalier Francesco left to the municipality of Sciacca in 1969 at the wish of their father. The building is located in the historic center, next to the cathedral, on the site of the former Church of Santo Stefano , which was demolished in the 16th century.
Inside, all rooms are covered with vaults almost always painted in tempera and the floors still contain interesting 19th-century majolica . In addition to the original furnishings dating from the 19th and early 20th centuries, a remarkable collection of art and antiques has been preserved and displayed inside.
The Scaglione Museum consists of an artistic section , exhibiting paintings by great Neapolitan and Sicilian painters from the 16th to the 19th centuries , and an archaeological section , with finds from the Greek period .
