The church was built between 1753 and 1792 according to a design by the Jesuit Onofrio Luna.
The facade is largely unfinished and is characterized by three portals with elegant doorways in Baroque style. On the right side of the church is a pointed bell tower , which in the original design certainly had its symmetrical left side.
The basilica-like interior is divided into three naves by a series of pillars supporting round arches. The vaults and walls are decorated with rococo-style stucco work, while the main altar features a beautiful marble statue of Gagini's Madonna del Soccorso (1538). Notable are a 17th century wooden statue of Saint Andrew and a canvas of Saint Augustine , as well as two pale red marble struts at the entrance to the nave.
