The church was founded in 1300 and rebuilt a first time in 1565 and a second time in 1641.
The current facade is the result of a reconstruction in 1966 in which the old forms were not respected. The upper part, with the crenellated bell tower in the center, is a modern addition that contrasts with the strict line of the old Renaissance facade with pillars , round arches and battlements built with local stones.
On the facade under the portico are five cannonballs fired in the 1600s by some British ships sailing in the waters of Saccuan, which had mistaken the fireworks fired for the feast of Our Lady for cannon shots.
The interior has the shape of a Latin cross and is divided into three naves by columns. The painting of the Nativity of the Virgin from 1628 and the wooden statues from the 1700s are valuable. The subjects of the paintings are usually copied from compositions by Guido Reni, etc., and colored according to the copyist's taste.
