Together with the adjacent monastery, better known as the Badia Grande, it forms the city's most important monumental complex .
It was founded in 1380 by Guglielmo Peralta and rebuilt between 1776 and 1784 according to a design by Luciano Gambino from Trapani. The facade, with an extremely simple compositional scheme of the first order, acquires a baroque impulse and preciousness with the picturesque loggia and the attic above.
The single-nave interior is rich in decorations and works of art in pure gold, including several canvases by Testone, while the goose breasts are by the Cannella brothers; the altars and floor are all made of red Sciacca marble.
The church contains the graves of many members of the Peralta and Luna families.
