The statue of Tommaso Fazello in Sciacca was created by the sculptor Filippo Prestia.
Tommaso Fazello, born in Sciacca in 1498 , is considered one of the founders of historical topography and archaeology. His painstaking research work ( he traveled through Sicily four times on foot and on the back of a mule ) was responsible for identifying several illustrious towns on the island "already buried under ruins, ruins, thickets and plowed fields" and brought back to life . as "called from the underworld".
His De rebus siculis decades duae is an extraordinary and fascinating source of knowledge for those who have the desire and desire to study ancient Sicily. The historian Ferdinando Maurici, author of the book The Archaeological Sicily of Tommaso Fazello , defined him as a genius of the Italian Renaissance, a glory of the whole world, a gigantic character.
