Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo - Sambuca di Sicilia

The church was most likely founded immediately after the expulsion of the Saracens, in the first half of the 13th century.

The layout, with the construction of the entire facade, the bell tower with its spiral staircase in sandstone tuff with concentric blocks and the three portals with their respective doors, seems to have been completed in 1596. This date was written on the base of a column until 1932 the new portal. In that year the vault of the nave and the right aisle collapsed ; the church was also restored to its foundations and the date disappeared.

The church is dedicated to St Michael Archangel and has architecturally perfect lines, quadrangular columns and barrel vaults. A wooden crucifix on a silver laminated cross is venerated here, both dating from the late 16th century. The wooden equestrian statue of Saint George, the 17th-century carved ferculum used to carry the crucifix in procession, is interesting. Two frescoes by Gianbecchina depicting angels with trumpets can be admired on the walls of the apse.
