The foundation dates from the early 17th century.
The portal in pure Arab-Norman style comes from the ruined church of San Nicolò in Adragnus. Originally it was dedicated to San Nicola , but at a later period it took its current name.
During the earthquake that struck the Belìce Valley in 1968, the church suffered serious damage. Consolidation work was later funded and the church was restored in successive stages between 1974 and 1984 . The painting of the entire church was resumed as in the original by the decorator Tommaso Montana.
The statue of Mary SS is highly venerated inside. The church preserves a beautiful statue of the Most Holy Immaculate Mary, as well as several altarpieces by the Capuchin Sambuce Fra Felice.
