Tafi-MONTE SERRA-Route by StepH

The MONTE SERRA, easily recognizable by the multiple antennas at its summit, is prominently present in the landscape between Pisa and Montecatini Terme. From San Baronto, you also have a beautiful view of this mountain with a height of 900 meters.

This ride takes you from Lamporecchio to the top of Monte Serra. The actual climb begins in Buti, the village where perhaps not the most famous Palio (Siena) takes place, but certainly the oldest (1848!). Seven districts or contrade compete on horseback for honor and glory in a race that starts at the cemetery and ends in the Piazza.

After 11 km and 800 meters of elevation gain, you reach the antennas at the top. Unfortunately, you cannot truly enjoy a beautiful panorama (too enclosed by trees and buildings), but it is still a very nice climb where many professional cyclists come to train.

Down below, you encounter a fairly busy return route that we follow for 12 km, but after 79 km at the Nissan garage, we quickly leave this road to continue our return to Lamporecchio via quieter roads.
