This tour in the Chianti gives a good picture of this region: grape growing and agritourismo are abundant here.
The first stop, after Linari, where a restored castle stands next to the church and the road descends with 25%, is the church 'Pieve di Sant' Appiano' : in front of this pre-Romanesque church from the 10th century, there are still a number of columns from a ter baptistery gone glory.
A second stop takes us to the Fonte della Fate in Pogibonsi : a large public drinking place from the 13th century with six pointed arches that houses since 2000 25 sculptures of crocodiles and human figures in bronze by Mimmo Paladino. Nearby is a pond with a waterfall with a lot of turtles.
Continue to Castellina in Chianti through the Chianti hills. The proud rooster, symbol of the Chianti region, waits at the roundabout at the entrance of the village. In the church SS Salvatore we find the holy relics of the Christian martyr St. Faust. Just outside the village is an impressive tumulus with a diameter of more than 50 meters that houses four tombs .
We continue to Greve in Chianti through the hills and visit the funnel-shaped central square, lined by arcades. A bronze statue can count on a lot of female attention ...
Continue to Badia a Passignano Abbey: the abbey buildings with battlements and towers seem to form a fortified castle.
Be sure to check out the sights on site! They explain what to see.
This tour is one of a series of city walks and tours starting from Villa Roberto and described in
'Explore Tuscany from Villa Roberto: Pisa / Lucca / Siena / San Gimignano / Volterra / Pistoia':
