Description by the author

Parking at the "Porta V" car park.

You can take a taxi bus that will take you to the main car park on the other side and from there return on foot to Porta V. This way you avoid having to go back and forth from the Temple of Heracles to the Temple of Juno. It saves 1.5 km of walking on the walk, which is otherwise about 7 km long.

Order the combination ticket that includes access to the Kolymbethra gardens (can also be purchased at the entrance to the gardens). The walk is organized in such a way that you first visit the temples and at the end (after 5 km) you may or may not visit the gardens of Kolymbethra. There is some shade available from the trees here. There is a cafeteria with shade 4.5 km away. There is the possibility to have a picnic in the gardens of Kolymbethra.

From the parking lot you first go to the remains of the once impressive temple of Olympian Zeus. After the temple of Heracles, Villa Aurea with its beautiful garden provides a pleasant change.

Past the beautifully preserved Temple of Concordia with the fallen Icarus, we arrive at the furthest point with the Temple of Juno.

We return and a refreshment in the cafeteria is certainly welcome on hot days. We pass again the temple of Concordia and witness the Paleochristian necropolis. We pass the remains of the sacrificial altar of the temple of Zeus.

A little further we can visit the gardens of Kolymbethra . This Garden of Eden takes us to the remains of the temple of Haphaestus. Along the way we see the remains of the Ancient Hypogea which was part of the gardens' ingenious irrigation system .

Back from the gardens we are treated to the beautiful remains of the temple of Dioscuri.

This city walk is part of a series of city walks and tours that depart from Balestrate and Sambucco di Sicilia and are described in "Discover all the sights of western Sicily through day trips"

Be sure to consult the information about the sights once you are there . They explain what you will see!
