Tanaro Trail (Sta)

The Tanaro Trail (STA) is a partially cycling and hiking route, marked with the red/green symbol, which develops along a long ridge that crosses the Langa Cebana and then rises up the Upper Tanaro Valley. An internal ridge of the Tanaro Trail, called the Mongia Ridge (numbered with stages 1A - 2A, etc...), also connects the long crest of the Mongia Valley from the Prato Rotondo Pass, just below the slopes of Monte Mindino, between the municipalities of Garessio and Viola all the way to Scagnello, Mombasiglio, and Lesegno. This variant also connects the Tanaro Trail with the Monregalese Balcony Trail (SBM) through the village of Valcasotto in the municipality of Pamparato, joining at the Navonera Pass. The "Mongia ridge" continues along the Corsaglia Valley until it rejoins the main Tanaro Trail through the Borello Stream Gorge, in Val Corsaglia, the "magical" Revelli Basin in the municipality of Ormea and Lake Pizzo di Ormea, through the Valcaira Refuge to finish at the Chionea Pass. In the upper Tanaro valley between the municipalities of Garessio and Ormea, the Tanaro Trail intersects numerous national and international routes, including the main itineraries within the Marguareis Park, among which are the Sentiero Italia, the High Way of the Ligurian Mountains, the Red Alpine Way, and the GTA.
