Geoalpina Road

The Geoalpine Way of the National Park of Val Grande fits into the framework of an international project aimed at spreading knowledge about earth sciences such as geology, geomorphology, hydrology, natural hazards, or stone exploitation through marked paths that raise awareness among tourists and hikers about the history of the formation of the alpine chain and the secrets of the earth. The route strengthens and enhances, on one hand, the network of historical and environmental paths that permeate the hiking enjoyment system in the VCO and upper Novara area, and on the other hand, the northeastern ridge of the Sesia Val Grande UNESCO Global Geopark underlying the territory of the national park and the nearby areas from the Italian-Swiss border to Campello Monti in the Strona Valley. While traversing the Geoalpine Way, in addition to enjoying an extraordinary variety of landscapes and mountain environments, one also encounters two significant geological sections (equipped with thematic panels) such as the Pogallo Line, in the homonymous valley, and the so-called "Lakes Series" along the ridge of the Cadorna Line from Pian Cavallo to Zeda. The itinerary then connects both at the starting section of Falmenta-Gurro and at the final point of Campello Monti to stages of the Great Crossing of the Piedmont Alps and can effectively constitute a variant of extraordinary interest to reach Lake Maggiore from the Sesia Valley.
