The Alexandrian territory is traditionally linked to cycling in the wake of the fame of Girardengo and Coppi and their sporting achievements. To promote sporting activities and bicycle tourism, a cycling and hiking route was envisioned that would connect the flat bike paths with the territories of the Alexandrian hills and mountains and pass through the places that witnessed the feats of the great Piedmontese champions. This led to the creation of an interregional route, consisting of a ring of over 230 km that connects 4 Regions (Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and Liguria) and the Po Valley with the mountains of the Piedmont Apennines and the Ligurian sea.
The cycling and hiking route "The Champions' Way between nature and sea" is characterized by tourism attractions of a naturalistic and landscape nature. In fact, the route allows for the tourism enjoyment of areas with high naturalistic and landscape value such as the ZPS IT1180025 "Dorsale Monte Ebro and Monte Chiappo" and the SIC IT1180011 "Massif of Antola, M.te Carmo, M.te Legna," IT1180009 "Streets of Val Borbera," IT1180026 "Capanne di Marcarolo." Moreover, the route also includes the SIR (Sites of Regional Importance) IT1180020 "Rio dell’Olmo," IT 1180023 "Pian dei Laghi," and the ARCHAEOLOGICAL-NATURALISTIC AREA OF GUARDAMONTE DI GREMIASCO. The path also features elements of great historical significance, such as the Fort of Gavi and the archaeological area of Libarna.
