LAKE GARDA BIKE TOUR
LAKE GARDA BIKE TOUR
Beautiful route south-east of Lake Garde.
The starting point was the hotel 'Villa Quaranta', the hotel where we stayed. The connection to any other point of this route is of course perfectly possible.
The route is really worth it!
No car, except the last part towards Bussolengo. However, I have never had traffic problems on this stretch.
The starting point is therefore Pescantina, near Verona.
From here the route continues on a brand new cycle path (the so-called "cycle paths"). This bike path is really worth it. Well-functioning asphalt, special bike bridges on intersections (are there any in Italy?), as well as on a meter-high aqueduct.
At the end of this bike path along the canal there is a very nice climb. Here, too, you will continue cycling along a cycle path. It was my first experience with a bike path with hairpin bends!!
Subsequently, the department is deployed towards Lake Garda (Bardolino). Up to Rivoli you drive on the cycle path. Later it becomes the public road. However, always on fairly quiet roads, although sometimes these are connecting roads.
The last kilometers towards Lake Garda are ideal for turning the large mill.
On Lake Garda itself, you have the choice between the bike path along the lake (very crowded with tourists and families) or the public road along the lake. This seems busy, but with your bike you still get high speeds here. Beware of (priority) tourists distracted on foot.
We leave Lake Garde to the rather busy Lazise, with a short gentle climb. From here you continue on very quiet roads parallel to Lake Garda. For example, you drive behind the Gardaland amusement park.
Then we cross again towards Verona and the starting point. You can do this on the busiest regional road towards Verona. This is what we did, on the recommendation of an Italian site. This connection actually wasn't that bad. A little busier, but never dangerous. There is no separate bike path, but there is enough space to cycle relatively safely.
There will definitely be an alternative (inside Bussolengo), but we will check next time.
The last part of the tour is on the narrow roads from Bussolengo to the hotel.
Enjoy the ride!!
Highly recommended.
