Description by the author

This route is one of the highlights of the Sesto Dolomites. During World War I, it was carved into the rocks by the Alpini, Italian mountain troops. The mountain path is very narrow and extremely exposed, leading through a beautiful landscape with canyons and high walls. Being free from acrophobia and having the right equipment, such as a via ferrata set and a helmet, is absolutely necessary. The route starts in the Fischleintal, at the parking lot by the Dolomitenhof. From here, we walk to the Fondo Valle hut (Talschlushütte) and take path number 103 to the Comici hut (2235m). On path number 103, we pass under the north face of the Croda dei Toni (Zwolferköfel) towards the Giralba Pass. At this pass, the Alpini path number 101 begins on the left side of a small lake. We follow the path and cross a large saddle, then through a gorge, arriving at a section secured by a fixed steel cable. Be careful, there is a deep chasm next to you. The path is straightforward and narrow, leading you to the famous “Inneres Loch” and "Äußeres Loch". Now the path ascends to the Elferscharte (2648 m), the highest point of the hike. From here, you have a splendid view of the rifugio Comici, Monte Casella, Sesto, etc. We descend along the beautiful path number 124, which is very steep and littered with many loose stones, so watch out. We continue towards Fischleindal and further to the parking lot at the Dolomitenhof. Those who prefer to tackle the difficult uphill passages can best walk the route in reverse.
