Mount Longonot National Park

Mount Longonot is a prominent stratovolcano that towers majestically over the Great Rift Valley. At around 40 miles from Nairobi, this trek to the summit is challenging but offers an exciting challenge for adventurous hikers. The 2776 m high crater rewards the effort with a fantastic panoramic view. During the ascent to the top of Mount Longonot you will cross various fascinating ecosystems. Initially, you walk through dense forests filled with a rich variety of plant and animal species. The trail then continues through open savannas where there is a chance to see zebras, giraffes and other African wildlife in their natural habitat. Mount Longonot again, whose lava fields and cinder cones are a spectacular sight and give you the feeling of being in a completely different world. It is recommended that you be in good physical condition and bring appropriate gear for the ascent of Mount Longonot, including sturdy shoes, sunscreen and plenty of water. There are several routes to choose from, but the most popular is the circular route around the crater rim, which covers a distance of around 7 kilometers.
