Bishkek is the capital of Kyrgyzstan. It is also the city's main transport hub of the country. Although the city was already here in the Middle Ages the city fell into disrepair and the city almost completely disappeared in the 15th century. In the following centuries mainly nomads lived in this place. The current city eventually emerged in 1825 as a resting place for trade caravans. It was one of the segements of the Silk Road that ran through the Tian Shan Mountains. Bishkek is therefore a young city, having only few historical buildings.
