Kaunas was once the capital of Litauwen when Vilnius, the current capital, was taken by Poland. Many beautiful buildings date from the interbellum period, when Kaunas fulfilled that function of capital. You can still enjoy the architectural eruption now. And Kaunas did not suffer the disadvantages that most capitals had in the 2nd half of the 20th century, because Vilnius took over as a capital. This walk starts and ends at the Kaunas central station and offers you a good first impression of the city. An ideal way to start your city trip. In 2020, Kaunas is the cultural capital of Europe.
