(“Digitized by the National Library of Luxembourg, www.eluxemburgensia.lu”). Soller Bannmühle – Soller Mill
The mill is fed by the Sollerbach.
In 1641, Anna-Maria von Breyderbach declared that her cousin Katharina von der Heyden had lent her 133 thalers and that she had also promised her 4 measures of rye from the Soller mill.
112 years later, in 1753, Louis, Baron and Anna-Claudia von Steinbach, a couple, declare that Charles de la Haye, officiant of the county of Wiltz, representative of the heirs of Anna-Maria von Breyderbach, has nullified the promise of 4 measures of rye from the Soller Mühle. This promise came to the first through the inheritance of their great-grandmother Katharina von der Heyden.
In 1766, François Poncin is mentioned as the miller.
In the register of 1824, François Poncin is listed as the miller of the Soller mill. Changes were probably made around the mid-19th century, as the front door dates from 1853 and the mill door from 1856.
Around 1878, the couple Alexis (Alexander) Lanners and Barbara Franck owned the Soller mill. They later bought the Bane Mill of Syr around 1890.
A quarter-century later, in 1904, François Roth is the owner of the mill. The name Roth remains on the mill until the 1930s of the last (20th) century. A daughter, Marie-Suzanne Roth, marries Jacques-Joseph Martin. The couple stays in the mill. The waterwheel has been idle since 1936.
In 1945, milling ceased. Marie-Suzanne Roth died in 1953. Her husband then left and lived in Givroulle, Belgium, where he died in 1963. Their son Jacques-François-Ernest Martin married Lydie Duchêne from Soller. Both live in Givroulle. In 1965, the mill with an apartment, several fields, and meadows was auctioned. The mill buildings, some gardens, and pastures were purchased by the Belgian couple Bernard-Vianney Ryelandt and Baroness Myriam Greindl for a total of 831,000 francs. Bernard Ryelandt is an official of the European Economic Community in Brussels. The Ryelandt family uses the building as a holiday home.
