Dream loops: Schengen without borders

We did this difficult and extremely beautiful hike on 02.09.2023. It is a combination of two routes, namely the Schengen Dream Loops without Borders and part of the Schengen Walking Motor Highway.

We found the access road to the dream loops a bit long. To avoid having to return on the same route, we have added a piece of car pedestrian. It turned out to be a very successful walk.

"The path at the tip of the three countries, above the Stromberg, where the border between Luxembourg and France runs, offers a fantastic view of the Moselle valley in Luxembourg, France and Germany. Here, hikers can experience Europe without borders up close.

Just a stone's throw from the European Information Centre, three steel steles, each with a gold star, commemorate the signing of the Schengen Agreement more than 30 years ago. Representatives of Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands signed on the passenger liner "Princess Marie-Astrid". On 14 June 1985, France and Germany signed the agreement which constituted one of the most important steps in European integration: the abolition of intra-European border controls for the movement of people and goods between the signatory states. Today, the wine town of Schengen stands for a Europe without borders: Above Schengen, the hiking trail crosses the Stromberg nature reserve. The leathery and shiny leaves of the deer fern are easy to distinguish. During the ascent to the high plateau, several forest windows open and offer a view of the Moselle valley. The Stromberg offers a breathtaking view of the Moselle valley with the wine village of Contz-les-Bains on the right and the thick walls of the old fortress of Sierck-les-Bains on the other dominating the Moselle village.
