On March 21, 1945, the Hudson IIIA FK803 MA-N crashed near Maulusmühle while returning from a mission in Erfurt (Thuringia, Germany).

The Hudson had departed from RAF Tempsford (Bedfordshire-UK), one of the most secret airfields of World War II. The airfield was reserved for the Royal Air Force Special Duty Service, the home base of 138 and 161 Sqn. Their main task was to organize acts of sabotage in the occupied territories and to support the resistance. They brought supplies and agents for the Special Operations Executive (SOE) into occupied territory.

Six crew members died, the pilot survived the tragedy.

The target for the experienced SOE-Belgium trio was Erfurt, but due to bad weather, they would not have been able to leave the aircraft; they had to turn right. Guy Corbisier was the mission leader with the codename "Benoît," Jean-Jacques Morel with the codename "Express," and Léon De Winter with the codename "Leader."

According to a statement from pilot Helper, his aircraft was hit by Friendly Fire over Luxembourg. He had ordered the crew to leave the aircraft. The Hudson exploded, and Helper was thrown out of the plane; he was the only survivor. After the war, an investigation commission did not provide any further clarity. Helper left the RAF in 1973 with the rank of Wing Commander. He died on October 27, 2010, in Torquay (Devon-UK).

At the crash site, the remains of the aircraft remain. Six steles were erected to permanently commemorate the crash. Guy Corbisier's father corresponded with relatives of British victims after the war. They agreed to give their loved ones a permanent resting place, a grave, and at the same time a memorial here.
