Sietiņiezis rock

The largest white sandstone outcrop in the Baltic States – 15 m high, 400 m wide. One of the most beautiful rocks in Latvia. It gave the name for nearby exiting Sietiņi house, the name has originated from the fact that the rock is full of gaps. The natural arch of Sietiņiezis collapsed in the summer of 1975. It is said that its vault was 4 meters wide it was the greatest formation of Sietiņiezis. Now instead of the arch in sandstone edge is large gap. Just alongside it there is emerging a new arch. Sietiņiezis Velnala Cave (Devil’s Cave) – located in the north of the southern part of Sietiņiezis near the downfall, it is 10.5 m long. Cave is unique in that it has both ends open - here is forming new arch near the location of former Sietiņiezis arch. The post – near the downfall and the cave resembles a huge, 15 meter high “sugar-beet”. It stands vertically, slightly holding by one side to the wall of the rock. Two niches in southern part.
