A remarkable experiment was held in Marrakech, based on what is called "the Dictator Game". You are given an amount of money (eg $10) and you can decide how much of that amount you give to a 2nd person. By playing with the circumstances, one tries to investigate what makes us less or more altruistic. Here in Marrakech, this research was done when the call to prayer sounded from the minarets and when there was no call to prayer. The game was played with the merchants of the city. The difference was spectacular. During the call to prayer, 100% of the shopkeepers gave all the money to charity. At other times, only 59% chose that option. This kind of testing has also been done in other parts of the world with a similar trend when having an association with religion or with a social dimension or not.
