The Blue House where Frida was born in 1907 and where she had only lived sporadically since she married Diego, in 1941 became the common home (after the death of her father Guillermo Kahlo). During the lonely periods (when Diego was working outside or conquering other women), Frida turned the house into a cocoon, surrounded by her collection objects, her pre-Hispanic idols, her animals, and the plants from the garden. It is during this period that she began to write and paint in her diary. By the late 1940s, the house became a virtual cage, due to the illnesses and pains that became increasingly severe until she died in 1954.
Soon Diego donated the house to become a museum. Because of this, the interior has been preserved very well, just as it was during her life, with a number of personal objects and memories (cutlery, clothing, jewelry, photos, letters, and books), complemented by archaeological and handcrafted pieces collected by the artistic couple.
The Blue House is also interesting for the photographic anecdotes, the letters that testify to the ups and downs of the relationship with Diego, and the leftist friendships like León Trotsky, the Soviet refugee who stayed here for a time as a guest after his arrival in Mexico in 1937 (before moving to his own house, where he was assassinated in 1940, now turned into a museum).
