Hoorn

Hoorn has its history. The Hoofdtoren is a beautiful monument from 1500 with a narrow spiral staircase (watch your head) leading to the restaurant area. A surprising view over the harbor and the IJsselmeer is your reward. You take a seat at an old oak table and are served in style; fortunately, the food is good and contemporary. If you have the time, take a walk through Hoorn, as the town is not built for a lot of motorized traffic and is certainly worth a visit. The old street pattern has largely remained intact. You will encounter many historically significant buildings, including the Kruittoren from 1508, the Oosterpoort from 1578, many warehouses from the VOC period, and not to forget the VOC building itself from 1682. The city boasts no fewer than 300 monuments. Also, stroll along the modern marina and observe the activity from one of the many terraces or benches.
