In Lochem you will find an area with forests, hills, castles, and country houses. One such country house is "Het Huis Ampsen". Documents from 1103 already mention this castle that went up in flames in the 16th century. Soon after, in 1543, it was rebuilt and expanded to fit the architectural style of the time. Lochem obtained its city rights in 1233 and was surrounded by walls in 1340. Noteworthy is St. Gudula from 1478, which stands in the market; it is a late Gothic hall church with a built-in tower and clad with tuff stone at the bottom. The trumpeters are still active there.
