The Galderse Meren is an area of recreational lakes south of Breda. The A58 runs between the two lakes. The largest and oldest lake is located south of the highway. The area is named after the nearby village of Galder.
The lakes were created in the early 1970s as a result of sand extraction for the A16/E19 motorway from Breda to Antwerp. In the 1980s, sand was extracted for the section of the A58 between the Sint Annabosch junction and the Galder junction. Sand has been extracted in the Noordplas for housing in Breda-Noord. The last sand extraction took place in 1995.
