The Drecht is a (canalized) peat river from Oude Wetering along Leimuiden, Vriezekoop, and Bilderdam to the Aarkanaal and the Amstel-Drechtkanaal at the Tolhuissluis.
The Drecht currently flows entirely in the municipality of Kaag and Braassem.
Originally, the Drecht flowed further east, eventually forming the Amstel together with the Kromme Mijdrecht at Uithoorn. Around 1825, the Amstel-Drechtkanaal was created from the eastern part of the Drecht and the southern part of the Amstel.
