The Hulsbeek is a Dutch recreation area, located west of Oldenzaal. Originally it was an estate situated around Erve Het Hulsbeek. In the 70s, the estate was transformed into a recreational park. To this end, three recreational lakes have been created by means of sand excavation. The sand from this sand excavation was used for the construction of the Oldenzaal residential area De Thij. Since the municipal reorganization of 2001, the entire recreation park is located within the municipality of Oldenzaal. Before that, the western part was part of the outskirts of Deurningen, which was part of the municipality of Weerselo.
The area, with a total area of 230 ha, consists on the one hand of the landscaped recreational lakes and meadows with a skateboard track and on the other hand of the original afforestation and heathland. The recreation park was also equipped with a cycling track in the 90s, later followed by an ATB course. At Het Hulsbeek you can walk, cycle, row and barbecue. During the summer season, the recreation park is used for various events, of which the Twente Ballooning, which takes place every year at the end of August, is by far the best known. The park mainly has a regional function, as 94% of the visitors come from Twente.
